WHY SHOULD HOMOSEXUALITY BE A CRIME UNDER GHANA LAW?
Jul 3 2009, 12:04 AM EDT
The ambit of Ghana's criminal Code 1960- Chapter 6, Sexual Offences Article 105, is to criminalize and prevent homosexual associations - sodomy in particular, extends to any sexual union involving penile insertion. Thus even consensual heterosexual acts such as fellatio and digital penetration may be a punishable offense under this law. This code havent been revised since 1960,which is the 20th century,49 years ago.So i ask myself,is Ghana not ready to move forward? The Human right code in Ghana protects every citizen no matter his or her colour, gender, race and political view but doesnt include sexuality. its about time Ghana realise that sexuality is Human rights too. i will start a new article since here doesnt give me enough space to continue so after reading this,go to my treads and continue. thankx. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Interestinly, India has just removed the British colonial law regarding homosexuality. Gay sex is now decriminalised in India. i think this shows it can be done but the key was about 9 years of work to change the law. This is what is absent in Ghana! 1 out of 1 found this valuable. Do you? |

Yes we can do this, but its not going to be easy because most Ghanaians are afraid to come out,its not easy at all. BRAVO TO INDIANS,AM SO PROUD,AT LEAST OTHER COUNTRIES WILL LEARN FROM IT,THAT GAY (SEXUALITY) RIGHTS ARE HUMAN RIGHTS TOO

It is a development gradually moving forward. Slowly (political correct elites in) more and more countries realize it is the right thing to do. Some steps backward, like in California, Nigeria and (failed) attempts in Botswana, Senegal, Rwanda, but there are more steps forward than back.so the trend is positive. It took some time in the West and the USA and even Eastern Europe are still lagging behind. But give it another 10 years and you will see a different world (At least juridically, it will take more time for society to change). Blackofe please take the lead in gathering some people around you to start advocacy by sending mails to various institutions like suggested in the Black Rasta page and bombarding politicians, media and NGOs with mails like Nookn and Hitman suggested. There are more Ghanaian youth members who would join you in a group to start pushing this.
