Biological exuberance - animal homosexuality and natural diversity

I have been reading a science book called Biological exuberance - animal homosexuality and natural diversity. It has been written by Bruce Bagemihl Ph. D. and it won the US Publishers Weekly award for Best Book of 1999.

The author recognised that in 751 pages he could only describe some of the massive evidence of animal homosexuality becuase there are so many species that this subject defies any attempt at comprehensiveness.

When you seriously study animal behaviour you realise that animals engage in sex for pleasure and partner bonding. In the many species observed and recorded, the couple can be male with male or female with female.

The only conclusion I could reach is that Albert Einstein was corrent when he observed that 'the most beautiful thing is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. '

We should not be surprised that as humans we share some mysterious things in common with other animal species. Attraction to our same gender is one of them. We were born with diversity in our sexual preferences, just as we are born with other characteristics and special abilities. Some societies have the good sence and mature thinking to understand these truths. Gay couples in these countries have full equal rights including marriage.

Sadly, many Ghanaians have yet to reach this level of realisation of the true order of nature. The law speaks of the misdemeanor of carnel knowledge against the laws of nature. Not so. Minds are polluted with the messages of hate that derive their legitimacy from writings with no scientific value.

We need to use the truth to purge the toxic lies and false beliefs. Being gay is a natural attribute. Some of our people have been outstanding achievers. Let us celebrate all the natural diversity of life. Nature confims our place in the grand existance of life on planet Earth. 1  out of 1 found this valuable. Do you?

The majority of Ghanaians seem totally unaware of these facts. During the storm over the fake gay rights conference that was supposed to be coming to Ghana this argument came up many times. It was said that 'even animals don't do it'.

The implication was that if animals don't do it then humans shouldn't either because it is not natural. Conversely, if animals do do it then humans should because it is natural! And of course animals DO do it so, without realising it, they lost their own argument!

It makes me realise that before many things can change in Ghana, the educational level has to be raised so that rational discussion can take place.
