Hi Fidelix,

No there is nothing in Ghanaian law that says you can't be gay. You can't legislate against people's thoughts and feelings but you can legislate against their behaviour.

There is a part of the law which is interpreted as being against anal sex - they call it 'unnatural carnal knowledge'. Of course, there is nothing unnatural about what we do but they still use this law to apply to us.

The legal definition of marriage is usually between a man and a woman.
I think words 'gay marriage' are not helpful. What people are doing in Europe is not marriage - it is simply a way of legally recording their relationship. It's called a civil partnership. Men and women can also record the fact that they are living together without being married. It offers many of the same rights that marriage does.

I think the term marriage (which most people think is between a man and a woman) confuses the issue and upsets people, especially religious people. Because religion has such power in Ghana I think we should not talk about 'gay marriage' but use other words which do not threaten people.

I would like to add that I think that gay men should learn to become mature and be able to form relationships that last longer than 6 months before they start talking about 'marriage'! haha

I have heard that a government department is doing work on the issue of homosexuality and now I'm going to research this to see if it is true. I will post my findings here.
