One of the main arguments against homosexuality is that it is not natural. The part of Ghanaian law used to intimidate homosexuals classifies is as ‘unnatural carnal knowledge’, meaning sexual intercourse that is not natural. The language itself tells you how old this law is. It was made at a time when people didn’t know any better. Ironically, the British, who imported this law to Ghana have long since legalised homosexual behaviour and would not agree with the Ghanaian position.

If something is not natural it wouldn’t be seen in nature. But if we look to nature we do indeed see homosexual behaviour. There has been a lot of research on homosexual behaviour amongst animals.

Here is just a small list of animals where the males enjoy sex with other males:

1. Primates e.g. monkeys, gorillas, chimpanzees
2. Other mammals: cattle, sheep, dolphins, dogs, donkeys, cats, rams, goats, pigs, antelope, deer, elephants, hyenas, rabbits, lions, porcupines, hamsters, mice, and porpoises
3. Birds: budgerigars, ducks,
4. Reptiles: lizards
5. Fish

Another argument we hear is that sex is for procreation only but who says so? These people even say that masturbation is wrong because animals don’t do it. Wrong again! Animals not only masturbate but they even have sex just for fun. So both of these things are totally natural.

Some Christians, particularly the type you find in Ghana, use the bible to claim homosexuality is against their god. There are many arguments to counteract them but this article is not the place to do it. Needless to say they have eyes that only see what they want to see. Because the bible also says the following are wrong:

• wearing clothing made of two kinds of material (Lev. 19: 19)
• trimming or shaving sideburns (Lev. 19: 27)
• have traditional tribal markings and getting tattoos (Lev. 19: 28)

These quotes are obviously absurd in this day and age and we rightly ignore them. They probably served some function when they were written but are now ridiculous. Likewise, we now realise that there is nothing wrong with loving someone who is the same as you and understand the limitations of those men that wrote the bible.

People who are against homosexuality often repeat things that they have heard. Always check what you hear and never just believe something because the person who told you it was in a position of authority.

Some people believe the anus is not made to take dick. I would ask them why there is a G-spot inside if it is not meant to be stimulated!

Homosexuality is not only natural, it is enjoyable. Overcoming the voices that have told you from birth that it is wrong can be a difficult challenge but many of us have done it.
