To continue my Article on gay rights are human rights.
At a time when a large number of countries worldwide have legalised gay & lesbian rights, in Ghana, the outdated 20th century 49 year old Criminal Code 1960- Chapter 6, Sexual
Offences Article 105 defines homosexuality as a crime. As well as Ghana's Human Rights Protects every citizen no matter his or her colour, gender, race or political view except his or her sexuality, this means that GLBT people in Ghana are second class citizens? have we forgotten our Motto:? FREEDOM AND JUSTICE?
Why should GLBT people in Ghana be beaten, harassed and jailed simply because of their sexual orientation?. This is the world of gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transexuals — sexual minorities which have given Ghana, and the world, some of its most creative people, including Walt Whitman, Elton John, Boy George,Dolce and Gabbana and Gianni Versace not to mention some prominent Ghanaians who hide their sexual orientation because of fear.
If any Homophobes read this article,i want to confirm that homosexuals are as normal as ‘you’ and ‘me’.just because they love ‘their own kind’, they are ostracised and hounded by the law. And branded as "kwadwo basia, batty boy,and even the most violence word like "trumutu" meaning ass fucker.
‘‘Homosexuals are normal humans attracted to their own gender".
Relationships are defined by comfort levels and not societal sanctions. “Like heterosexuality, homosexuality is an orientation which is not unnatural. The world accepts this orientation; society is changing.’’ What is not changing is the legal mindset in Ghana and their corrupted minds. sorry if am being rude but am so so upset after knowing that even India is realising that the word is a 21st century and Ghana is like a "konongo kaya"(konongo head porter),she doesn't move and doesn't allow anyone to pass by.
‘‘3 years ago, at Nsawam, where i used to stay,I heard a gay was forced into medication to ‘cure’ himself. This mistreatment included shock and aversion therapy which ended him to commit suicide and no one spoke about this including the ignorant families who forced him.i wont mention names.
Medically-speaking, evidence points to homosexuality being a function of biology. A study conducted by
Dean Hamer
in 1994, wherein he studied 40 pairs of homosexual brothers, reports that 33 pairs shared a set of five genetic markers. Hamer concluded that genetics played ‘‘some role’’ in a minority of gays. In Ghana, male-to-male sex is not uncommon. ‘‘In fact, a higher percentage of men have male-to-male sex than sex with sex-workers,they don't call themselves gays or bisexuals but rather describe sex as having fun with someone you feel comfortable with no matter the gender.
Today, homosexuality is recognised across the globe, with the Netherlands being the first country to permit marriage for gay and lesbian couples. While the UK has passed legislation recognising gay relationships(is UK any difference from Ghana? Christianity to be precised), More than 37 states across the US have blocked anti-sodomy laws. Events such as Mardi Gras in Sydney, Midsumma in Melbourne, Gay and Lesbian Pride in Johannesburg, Women’s Celebration Week in Greece, and the Gay and the Lesbian Film Festival in Lisbon express the essence of being homosexual so why can't other countries play less hard on homosexuality?.
If laws are supposed to represent socially-acceptable dos and don’ts, then a new mindset is the need of the hour. Otherwise, normal human beings will continue to suffer inhuman exploitation just because nature has nourished them with the need to be different. WAKE UP GHANAIANS AND MAKE THE WORLD WORTH TO LIVE IN!!
